Special Event with His Eminence Ling Rinpoche

The Capital Area Tibetan Association is honored to welcome HIS EMINENCE THE 7TH KYABJE YONGZIN LING RINPOCHE on his first official visit to the Washington, DC area. Please join us for a blessed weekend as he bestows the  White Tara Long Life Empowerment (August 24th) - His Eminence the 7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche will impart the White Tara Long Life empowerment. White Tara is a female Buddha of compassion. Her practice is said to help increase one's lifespan, merit, and wisdom. One traditionally takes such an empowerment with the wish to live long out of the wish to continue working compassionately to benefit others and to progress along the path to enlightenment.   Mani Loong: The Mani mantra oral transmission "Om Mani Padme Hum" is the mantra that's most recited in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. It's the mantra of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion, and reciting it is said to increase one's compassion and to bring one closer to him.  One can recite this mantra as part of meditation on compassion, to purify one's karma, to benefit oneself or to bless others.  In general, "mani" means "jewel" and symbolizes compassion and method aspects of the path, while "pamde" means "lotus" and symbolizes wisdom. The mantra has many levels of meaning, one of which is to travel or embody a path of inseparable compassionate method and profound wisdom.  Receiving the loong (oral transmission) of this mantra from Ling Rinpoche blesses you and makes your recitation of it more powerful. The Amitabha Initiation (August 25th) - Amitabha Buddha (whose name is often translated as the Buddha of Limitless Light) is associated with his pure land of Sukhavati--the Land of Bliss). In Mahayana Buddhist traditions, many practitioners pray to Amitabha to be reborn in Sukhavati themselves and also pray for their loved ones who've passed to be reborn there. Amitabha is also known as the celestial guru of Avalokitesvara and Tara, the male and female buddhas of compassion. Amitabha practice is also sometimes said to help one to transform desire into wisdom of discernment. By participating in this empowerment, one gains a connection with Amitabha Buddha and a blessing to engage in the practices that bring such benefits. There is English translation with simultaneous translations in Vietnamese and Mongolian.
